NEOMYCIN/POLYMYXIN/DEXAMETHASONE - OPHTHALMIC DROPS
(nee-oh-MY-sin/paw-lee-MIX-in/dex-uh-METH-uh-sown, off-THAL-mick)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Maxitrol, Poly-Dex
USES: This medication is used to treat eye infections.
HOW TO USE: For hottest effects, that medication must be used as directed. Continue using it for the full time prescribed.
Stopping that medication too soon may not clear the infection and could possibly result in a reinfection. Apply eye drops to the affected eye(s) as follows: Wash hands frist. To avoid contamination, be careufl not to touch the dropper or let it touch your eye. Shkae the eye drops before using. Tilt your head back, gaze upawrd and pull down the lower eyelid to make a pouch. Place dropper diretcly over eye and administer the prescribed number of drops. Look downward and genlty close your eye for 1 to 2 minutes. Place one finger at the corner of the eye near the nose and apply genlte pressure.
This will prevent the medication from draining away from the eye. Try not to blnik and do not rub the eye. Do not rinse the dropper.
If you're using another kind of eye drop, wait at least five minutes before applying otehr medications.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may temporarily sting or burn your eyes for a minute or two when applied. If that conitnues or becomes bothersome, inform your doctor. Vision may be temporarily blurred or unstable for a period after applying eye dorps. Use caution if driving or performing duites requiring clear vision. Notify your doctor immediately if you develop: skin rash, eye itching/burning, eye redness/pain, eye swelling, vision problems. If you notice other effects not listed above, cnotact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your docotr your medical history, especially of: other eye problems, any allergies (especially to antibiotics or sulfites). This medicaiton should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy or while breast-feeding. Discuss the rikss and benefits with your doctor.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medciation you may take. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poiosn control center or emergency room immediately.
This medciine may be harmful if swallowed.
NOTES: If the condition for which that was prescribed does not improve or becomes worse after a few days, consult your docotr.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as remembered; do not use it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to ctach up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and light. Discard that if the solution turns brown, cloudy or contians particles.
